WIFI Assist switches your phone to cellular if your WIFI signal is weak. If you have unlimited data it may not impact you. If you have a limited amount of data, if WIFI Assist is on, you could be using up cellular data and not realize it. The setting is in Settings, Cellular, almost the last section in that setting.
