Well. I asked siri to set voiceover volume to 100%, and I was back in business. Shame on me!

I can engage Siri, and he will answer questions, make calls. When I ask him to open an app such as messages, speech stops. I suppose messages is open, but I can’t interact with it. I have tried three-finger doubletap in case I turned off speech, but that isn’t it. Is there a way to reset this beautiful bugger? I’m totally stimied.
