Actually, you can disassemble the scanner bin to put in a pack back or brief
case.
I just did it and it is rather easy.
The issue will be to keep the binder clip that holds it together when folded
like when it arrives in the mail.
Since it is heavy duty cardboard, it can probably take a good number of
disassembly and reassembly sessions.
Practicality is probably in the mind of the beholder, but since the scanner bin
is basically a box lying on its side for scanning, it is less likely to get
flipped over with a slight bump than the Fopydo stand.

Portability, the Fopydo stand is probably a little easier and being made out of
corrugated plastic, probably a bit longer lasting; but not as solid when
sitting on a desk/table.
It does fold up smaller than the Scanner bin.

I hope that helps.

Hello Richard,
Thanks for the info about the scanner bin. I actually saw it in Amazon a couple
of weeks ago bot did not order it because it is not foldable and therefore i
cannot carry in my backpack. I have a question for you though, compared to the
fopydo scan, which one is more practical?
Regards

Greetings,
I learned recently about a new scanning stand called, ScannerBin.
I had been corresponding with the inventor and asked for instructions for the
assembly that a person who is blind or low-vision could follow. He did that.
I received it today and by following his instructions, assembled it on the
first try.
It ends up being a cardboard bin that you can drop loose papers, receipts,
whatever you want to scan eventually into and then turn it on one side with the
square cut out on top; place your camera over that hole, and flatten things out
on the bottom of the bin and scan away.
He provides a clear plastic sheet with a cut out in it to help keep pages flat
if they were folded or wrinkled.
The cut out means the clear plastic shouldn’t produce glare that would mess up
the scan.
I am duely impressed.
I added the following to my web site:

ScannerBin

Scanner Bin is a device that can double as a bin to store papers or receipts to
be scanned, then turned on its side and used as a scanning stand.
I just received this new scanning stand, and assembled it without sighted
assistance by following his video instructions for blind/visually impaired
customers.
Its brilliant!
Common Uses:

• As a tool that enables the visually impaired to read letters
• Scan a stack of paper or a notebook in under a minute
• Scan receipts for returns, insurance records, HSA, FSA
• Students use it to digitize their notes
• Scan family pictures
• Real-estate agents complete deals from anywhere
• Professional drivers scan receipts right in their vehicle
• Professional organizers (NAPO) and their clients
• Property managers scan invoices
• Trade-show warriors
• Small business owners

Portable
Folds flat and weighs only 11 ounces.
Alignment Bumpers
Attach alignment bumpers to match your device to the Scanner Bin
Flat Sheet
The Flat Sheet is used to flatten your folded receipts and letters. The center
cut
out eliminates glare from the camera flash and is useful for positioning
documents.
