I guess it depends on what phone you have and what IOS. I have the 6S+ with
IOS 13.5.1 as well and I can use the power button and the home button and
both tell the time when they are used.

or home buttons. So I put the clock app on the top right hand corner of my
home screen above some scanning apps. So if I want the time from my iPhone
it is easy to find. Your mileage may vary!

On 10's or 11's, there is no HOME button any more.
