Cristobal,

Any UPS I have ever had started beeping when the power went out. I should of
course mention that APC is all I ever buy.
I really don't think there is much to worry regarding accessibility, this is
one you don't have to over-think, plug your computer and whatever else is
important, e.g. modem/router, your speaker etc. into the UPS and if the power
goes out the battery kicks in and your devices continue to have power.
A UPS in my opinion is not necessarily meant to continue to run your equipment
for a long time, typically you have an outage which is resolved quickly or you
have one which is going on for hours and hours and in that case really all the
UPS is there for is for you to finish whatever you are doing so you can
properly shut everything down and to protect your stuff from power surges. I
use APC BackUPS850 units for all my workstations at work although I have just
bought another much more expensive APC Smart UPS 1500 which I am using at the
point in my business where all my networking equipment sits, e.g. my router and
switch. I have a 24-port Cisco switch which includes 12 POE ports and I am just
about to move into a new building I bought a few months ago and which I have
been renovating and one of the new things is a Voip phone system from a company
called 3CX. This includes an appliance provided by them which does all the
thinking, but we'll use my existing Cisco switch to plug in the 4 or 5 phones I
will have in the building so obviously it will be nice if the internet and the
phone system remains functional for maybe an hour or 2. I used to have an APC
Smart UPS 1500 as well as an even larger Smart UPS 2200 which is the size of a
desktop tower and which ways almost 100 pounds, but in all honesty I find that
this was overkill. The Smart UPS 1500 I just bought costs about $600 Canadian
Dollars and it apparently has some sort of cloud connectivity and app support,
but I haven't hooked it up yet so I can't say much to its functionality and
accessibility. But like I said, as long as maybe it sends out a notification
that the power is out that's good enough for me.

Also, just FYI, all the smaller APC BackUPS models I bought have one row of
outlets which have surge protection only, they are not on battery backup, the
other row has both surge protection and battery backup. Things like your
printer should not be plugged into battery backup as they can draw a lot of
power and having them on surge protection is good enough. All of the new
BackUPS units also have at least 2 USB ports which you can use to charge your
iPhone or other USB devices in case of a power outage.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Subject: ISO an accessible UPS for a home office

Hello list,
So, because I’m a procrastinator, while I’ve been meaning to get one, I haven’t
yet. Naturally, Southern California is going through a major heatwave and
rolling blackouts are a real possibility. I hope to be better prepared next
time… I’m looking to buy a UPS for my home office. There are enough review
sites out there, but before I buy one, I was wondering if anyone is aware of an
accessible model. Either out of the box or a smart device capability. I.E. iOS
app or web interface of some sort. By out of the box, I mean even something
that gives any sort of audible feedback.
I was think of the APC 1500VA UPS Battery Backup & Surge Protector with AVR,
Back-UPS Pro Uninterruptible Power Supply
(BR1500G)<https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003Y24DEU/?coliid=I2AF7R2MZNBTBZ&colid=3EDIL2YF795OZ&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it>
Or
CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS System, 1500VA/1000W, 12 Outlets, AVR,
Mini
Tower<https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00429N19W/?coliid=II7CBJ9ZNM1YO&colid=3EDIL2YF795OZ&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it>
I’m open to other models as well if there’s in fact something that can provide
an accessible user experience. I need something that I can plug my modem,
router and a few PC towers into and can last more than five or ten minutes.
While I’m not looking to drop like $1000 or $2000 on a unit, I don’t mind
paying for something that may be a little overkill for my setup.
Any recommendations or real user feedback on what may work or what to stay away
from would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Cristóbal
