Have you tried space+m to mute VoiceOver? It's a toggle so when you want speech back press space+m again.

I found some pretty good instructions on the voicedream site, but my issue seems to be that I can't read silently. That is, every time I use my panning buttons to move the braille, voiceover starts yammering away and doesn't stop until it reaches the end of the current paragraph. This behavior makes it difficult, if not impossible to concentrate on what I am reading on the display. Is there some simple way of reading silently short of turning off voiceover? Am I making this more complicated than it needs to be? I've never used voicedream reader with a braille display so I am a complete novice. That is to say, please be patient with my beginner questions. And thanks in advance for any help.
