I updated my first generation SE with no problems, but it has about 60 GB free.If you have say less than 8 GB free you may be running into a memory issue while it is going through the process. Have you tried updating through iTunes Also, have you cleared the app switcher and rebooted?You probably have, but just thinking out loud.
