I haven't updated via iTunes in many years and never found there were any issues with updating iOS straight from the device. I still will, however, remove all apps from the app switcher before any update and for major iOS version updates like the one just now from iOS 13 to iOS 14 I will also do a Reset Network Settings just before. Then after I reconnect to WiFi and change the name of my phone back to Sieghard's iPhone 8 I do the update.
