That is the sequence for doing a hard reset on devices with a virtual home button like my iPhone 8 as well as no home button like the iPhon e X and later. On the old phones with a mechanical home button you would simply press home and side button together and hold for about 10 or so seconds, once the home button changed to a virtual home button you press volume up and release, volume down and release and then hold the side button for about 10 seconds to force a reset/restart. For people with sight Google explains it as follows: 1. Press and release the volume up button. 2. Press and release the volume down button. 3. Press and hold the side button until the screen turns off and then turns back on. You can release the side button when the Apple logo appears.
