Another question: If you do not set up a passcode when first setting up the
phone, I can find no option to use the 4 digit code rather than the 6digit.
An assistant on Apple accessibility told me it is possible but I have not
been able to locate the option. Can anyone help or verify this?

Yes, Face ID is easy to set up with VoiceOver running. You get prompts the
whole way. During the setup process, you'll be prompted to set it up. If
it's already set up, you can go into Settings and do it. Make sure your room
is well lit, and then follow the prompts. Face ID works fine in the dark
once it's set up, but my experience with the iPhone X is that having a good
amount of light while you're setting it up helps. Once you have it set up,
you only need to enter your passcode occasionally, mostly after a restart.
The rest of the time, it uses Face ID. There is no Touch ID on the 11.
