For whatever the reason, turning off describe images in voiceover settings may not stop it. Go into the rotor, and add describe images. Then, when you encounter this stuff, turn the rotor to describe images, and do a one-finger swipe up, and it will say describe images off for the app that you are in. You have to turn it off for each app where these unwanted image descriptions occur.
