I'd connect your iPhone and iPad with the cable and then make sure that the
syc via WiFi option is indeed checked and didn't somehow get unchecked.
Before you can use WiFi sync you have to make sure it's checked and if it is
not, check it and then click "Apply".

Also, make sure your devices are definitely connected to WiFi and to the
same network as the computer.

Sorry if you may think these are obvious things and if you checked, but I
don't know the level of your knowledge and even for an advanced user
sometimes you assume something and later find out it's not the case.

Lastly, if WiFi sync still doesn't work, reset your computer as well as
reboot your iDevices and possibly even the router/WiFi access point. I
personally use WiFi sync sometimes, but I find it unreliable at times as
well and it's also a lot slower so if I have larger amounts of data to sync
I just plug in the cable.
