Hello Everyone, The following was just posted to the Candle Shore BLOG:

TIP: How Blind And Low Vision IOS 6.0 Users Can Work With Photos Received
Via SMS

Hello Everyone,

I accidentally deleted the original question that was posted on this subject
but I want to offer an answer regarding how blind and low vision iOS 6.0
users can work with photos received via SMS.

NOTE 1:
VoiceOver is Apple's software screen reading solution for the blind and low
vision.

NOTE 2:
This document assumes that VoiceOver users are familiar with basic VoiceOver
gestures.

With the release of iOS 6.0, there is a serious VoiceOver bug with regard to
manipulating photos received via text message. The workaround for this bug
may prove somewhat challenging for totally blind iOS 6.0 users but, at the
time of this writing, appears to be the only solution.

Scenario: You receive a photo via SMS and you double-tap on the attachment
in order to view/open/edit/delete/forward the photo.

Now, based on my experience, the photo will open in full screen. That is to
say, there are no controls with which to manipulate the photo.

All a non-VoiceOver iOS 6.0 user (sighted person) need do is to simply tap
the upper part of the photo in order to display the soft-controls necessary
to save, forward, delete the photo and more.

With VoiceOver enabled, there does not seem to be anyway of getting these
controls to be displayed.

To my knowledge, the only way blind and low vision iOS 6.0 users can get the
necessary soft-controls to display is to do the following:

1.
Disable VoiceOver.

2.
Single-finger, single-tap the upper part of the display screen. This will
cause the image soft-controls to be displayed.

3.
Enable VoiceOver.

I strongly encourage all voiceover users to send an email to
[email protected] to report this bug.
