First, when it says the maximum number is 5, this is a button, and if you double tap this, you land in an edit field where you can change the number to what you wish. I changed it to 20, and I did not get any errors. Unfortunately I do not have any groups set up for texting, so I could not actually finalize the process and send the message. second, there was just an update for the app in the app store, and there is a new feature available. For texting, you now have a choice, you can use ABC Groups to send your message, or you can use the message app. This choice is located on the screen where the maximum number is, and it is right before the number. Now for group emails, you can use ABC Groups to send the email, or you can use the mail app. Hope this has been helpful.
