Thread is a new protocol adopted by the connected home over IP project that 
Apple, Google, and Amazon are members of. It’s a humblest protocol and a mesh 
protocol. That means every device talks to every other device making it very 
robust. The HomePod minis are what’s called border routers. They just interface 
you into the Thread network. And the Thread network into your lan

The difference with the original HomePods is that they do have a richer Fuller 
sound because they’re larger. Larger speakers and more of them. So if you 
wanted it just for music that that was your primary reason to get a HomePod 
then I would say look at the larger one. But for good music and all the use 
cases you mention with Siri the HomePod minis are fantastic. I’m always asking 
mine questions do I have any new messages, what’s the weather. And controlling 
devices.
