The ports are, one lightning port for your charging cable, and one USB port for the external storage. It would not connect to a screen. The lightning plug that goes into your phone or iPad is on about a 3 inch cable.
For iPhones, you have to have the charger plugged into it as the iPhone doesn't have enough power to handle even a USB thumb drive. I understand that with iPads, they can power it.
