This is my experience with doing that. It may be easier than this, but here goes: Adding a contact from a text message
Open the text message. Then double tap on the phone number. Then, double tap on the phone number again. Then flick right to the info button and double tap. You have to then double tap again on the number before you find the create contact option where it usually shows up.
