To put a file on a SD card from an iPhone, I would first email it to my self
as an attachment, or if it is too big for that, I would send or save it to
DropBox. Then I would access the file from a computer and save the file to
a SD card reader.

The Lightening to sd card adapter I have does not have a lightening port on
it to charge while in use.
The newer ones might have but be carefull with hat one,
Mine is a few years old now and can't be written to, just read from.
Another option if you had the adapters
Would be to use the USB / lightening adapter Richard speaks of,
And then use a USB to micro SD or sd card adapter to copy your data on to.

I believe apple sells one. I have the one that works with USB memory
sticks.
It has a lightning cable that is about 3 inches long that you plug into your
phone, and there is a block on the other end that has a lightning charging
port and the SD card port, of course the one I have has the USB port.
Perhaps search the Apple Store for SD card adapter.
Or the Lightning Camera adapter, but make sure it is for SD cards and not
USB drives.
You will have to have your phone charging with the charging port on the
adapter because iPhones do not have enough power to run the card reader.
