The creator of Seeing AI recommends that once you have an idea what part of the
package the bar code is located, you start with the camera 8 or 10 inches away
and slowly move closer. If the bar card is there, it will start making a sound.
Or, while holding the camera about 8 to 10 inches away and if you are sure it
is pointed to the package, start rotating the package slowly, you should hear
something and when you do stop moving the package and slowly bring the camera
closer.
The main tips for bar codes that I know are:
1. on cans, it is usually near the seam in the label on the middle to lower
portion of the can.
2. ON packages that are plastic bags, like chocolate chips, it is also by the
seam and you just have to move back and forth until you find it.
3. ON boxes, it is usually on the bottom again near the seam, but not always.
For example, Lean Cuisine frozen meals the bar code is on the back near
a corner, where no seam exists. You can tell it’s the back because the flaps
that are glued down has the edge toward the bottom.
4. On some soda cans, there are no labels, so you are on your own to just
rotate the can until you find it.
Or, as someone else said, use the Short Text feature and read the label.
Though, sometimes, there is good extra information included in the bar code.

Josh:
I have never had much luck with the bar code reader in Seeing A I. Have better
luck with the 'short text' feature to read the front of the label.
If you still want to use the bar code feature, double tap on it and the bar
code is usually to the left of the label seam on the bottom.
