Hi patti, Those software packages are not essential to the running of the mac.
All mac computers really come with all software you need already on them, And then if you need it you can download for free, Pages, numbers and keynote Which are word processor, spreadsheet and presentation software packages. The logic pro and other software you mention are for audio recording / editing etc and are going to be beneficial if you are in to those types of things, But then other people might be able to suggest other options for being able to edit audio that wont cost the same amount as the ones you have mentioned.
