I'll answer what I can in context. , I've been doing some googling on the orbit reader 20+. The one thing I cannot figure out is if it has cursor routing keys.
* No cursor routing keys. What are the differences between the original orbit reader and the new orbit reader 20+? * The 20 plus can translate plain text files into whatever braille grade you want to use. There are 4 Profiles that you can set to different braille codes and switch to the one you want on the fly. It also has a clock, calendar, and calculator; though they are very basic. It has newer chips in the hardware. If I have files stored on the SD card, how can I navigate them? Headings, paragraphs, etc.? * There is paragraph navigation but no heading navigation as this is just working with plain text files. You can navigate by word or character or line to an extent. What are your thoughts on the refresh rate of the device? I have read that it is a bit slower than traditional braille displays. * It refreshes differently than other displays by starting with the first cell and going across. If you read several hundred words a minute, you may have to slow up a bit, but I find the refresh rate just fine. I had used a Braille Edge 40 for work the last 5 years and various HIMS and Humanware displays before that and the Orbit Reader suits me just fine. I briefly owned the orbit writer, but that device did not work out for me. One reason was I could never update it successfully. What is the update process like for the orbit reader 20+? Can it be done without a Windows PC? * Yes, the 20 plus can be updated by putting the .bin file on the SD card and running the update process. You could either use an SD card reader or put the device in what they call Mass Storage Mode while it is connected to your computer and then your computer sees it as a drive and you would just copy the .bin file on the card, and go from there. The manuals are on their web site and I have links to all that and more from my web site: www.turner42.com where I have an Orbit Research Information page: www.turner42.com/ori.html And maybe lastly, since I am familiar with what the keys look like on the orbit writer, what are the braille keys like on the orbit reader 20+? * The keys are the same on the 20 plus. If you imagine the writer with a braille display connected to it, you have the 20 plus. Thank you, Traci -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list.
