This sounds like what I experienced with the NBA app a little while ago. I was able to fix it by turning off screen recognition. I pulled up the App Switcher, made sure the NBA app had focus and then turned the roter until I got to screen recognition. I was then able to flick up or down to turn it off and this fixed the problem for me. I got this tip from this list, and like I said, it worked for me and the NBA app.
