How do you know when to charge the battery pack?

Subject: Re: Battery pack for iPhone

Hi, Malcolm,

Funnily enough, I have that exact same battery from Anker. I love it since it's
small but mighty, and fits in my small purse quite comfortably. I also like
that it has a trickle charging mode for devices with batteries under 50 MAH.
Incidentally, Richard, that's what that little button on the top is for, if you
get this battery--for putting it into trickle charging mode.

I do have a question for you, though, Malcolm. With my other gigantic Anker
battery that also charges via USB C, there's a button on it that switches the
state of the USB C charging port from the port charging something else, such as
my Microsoft Surface, to the port charging the battery itself. The first
battery I spoke of doesn't have this same button, which is why I'm wondering
how it knows when you want to charge something with that port or have the
battery be charged from that port. Any ideas? I know the reasoning behind the
port having two states--because USB C is bidirectional--but it does make it
slightly confusing. I will say that the Anker redux battery does get it right
every time, as far as I'm aware; every time I want to charge my Surface, it
does so beautifully--not that you'll get a great charge from it, but still. And
evevery time I want the battery to charge itself, it just does. If it didn't,
every time I went to use it after being plugged in for a few hours after using
it to charge my phone twice or charge my Surface a little bit, it would be dead.

Sorry for this sort of off-topic question.

Thanks,

Ari

Hi Richard,

Here’s a link to one battery pack I have here, it works well and holds its
charge too.

It has USB C for charging the pack.

USBC and A ports can be used to charge devices, two at a time if necessary up
to 18 Watts of power. It’ll fast charge your iPhone too.

I have found any of the Anker batttery packs hold their charge well many of
them in excess of a year without use.

I would suggest buying a pack 1.5 times the MAH capacity of your iPhone. A USB
C type and correct cable will also fast charge your iPhone.

What an opportunity to get you to spend your money too!

Hello,

I know these have been discussed a lot.

I’m looking for a battery pack that will hold its own charge for a long time
when sitting around not being used.

I’m not finding it easy to get that specific of information.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Richard
