For those who wish to continue to use the regular phone app, the reason it appears to stop working when attempting to play a voice mail is that Apple is guarding your privacy and preventing others from hearing your voice mail. It plays as usual over headphones. Sometimes this guarding my privacy thing happens to me, sometimes not, with no apparent reason why it happens or not. I don't worry much about it, I know how to solve the problem. If somebody knows how to turn it off permanently, let us know. Arnold Schmidt
