I don't find the follow my iPhone setting any more, but this could be me and
not the fact that it isn't there anymore. This predates special audio. I turned
this off because as I'm wondering around the house, I don't need the audio to
appear as if it's coming from my iPhone, since I'm not actually looking at the
video on my phone. I'd assume you would not need to turn this on to work with
special audio, but you could test it to make sure.

Subject: Re: Netflix now rolling out Spatial Audio support on iPhone and iPad

Nice! Does anyone know which movies or TV shows on Netflix has this spatial
audio track available? Wish to test this out on my Airpods Max.

There is also a confusing setting on my iPhone called "Follow iPhone." It's
located in Settings/Accessibility/Airpods. Not sure if this needs to be toggled
off or on to enable the Spatial audio feature.

Netflix has confirmed that it is now rolling out Spatial Audio support to its
iPhone and iPad applications. This enables an immersive experience using
directional audio filters, and it has been a long time coming to Netflix users.

A Netflix spokesperson has confirmed to 9to5Mac that the company has started
rolling out Spatial Audio support on iPhone and iPad on iOS 14. The news was
first reported by users on
Reddit<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.reddit.com%2Fr%2FAirpodsmax%2Fcomments%2Fp6oiss%2Fspatial_audio_is_now_working_on_the_netflix_app%2F&data=04%7C01%7C%7C51b53053024f438650cf08d963066544%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637649701387136296%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=duMQw5uLmE0mP5HKGQXuHLs6QzJZJvooPiAdUUMe0Rk%3D&reserved=0>
as well as in a report from
iPhoneSoft<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fiphonesoft.fr%2F2021%2F08%2F18%2Fnetflix-active-spatial-audio-application-ios&data=04%7C01%7C%7C51b53053024f438650cf08d963066544%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637649701387146248%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=oI1%2FdfvsoLqeXmEzkWzzOtR%2B5AhhMO5bMKDV8XuWc08%3D&reserved=0>,

The toggle for managing Spatial Audio is located in the Control Center. The
spatial audio feature is exclusive to AirPods Pro and AirPods Max.

Apple says that spatial audio is an immersive experience using directional
audio filters to "play sounds virtually anywhere in space, creating an
immersive sound experience." This will put surround channels exactly in the
right spot, even as you turn your head or move your device.

Here's how Apple describes the spatial audio feature for AirPods Pro and
AirPods Max users:

Spatial audio with dynamic head tracking brings the movie theater experience
right to your AirPods Pro. By applying directional audio filters and subtly
adjusting the frequencies each ear receives, spatial audio can place sounds
virtually anywhere in space, creating an immersive surround sound experience.
Using the gyroscope and accelerometer in your AirPods Pro and your iPhone,
spatial audio tracks the motion of your head as well as your device, compares
the motion data, and then remaps the sound field so that it stays anchored to
your device even as your head moves.

iOS 15 takes Spatial Audio to the next level with a new Spatialize Stereo
option<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2F9to5mac.com%2F2021%2F06%2F08%2Fios-15-and-macos-monterey-simulate-spatial-audio-for-non-dolby-content-with-new-spatialize-stereo-option%2F&data=04%7C01%7C%7C51b53053024f438650cf08d963066544%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637649701387146248%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=2MoHnBwmpae6pYVEONfDNnLXG7x%2BwQKIGISj2ix2xxY%3D&reserved=0>,
which simulates the Spatial Audio experience for non-Dolby Atmos content. This
allows AirPods Pro and AirPods Max users to listen to pretty much any song or
video.
