You do it the same way as you would when you use gestures, turn the rotor to Characters and then instead of swiping use left and right arrow. On a hardware keyboard you turn the rotor by pressing Up Arrow and Right arrow together to turn it clockwise and Up Arrow and Left Arrow together to turn it counter clockwise.
