I use Apple Braille Screen Input all the time, it is how I am writing this
message. Some people just don't like it very much, so if you don't, I
understand. I have been using this method of input since Braille Touch which
came out several years ago now, so give it another try. I never caught onto
FlickType, and I am very slow on the regular keyboard.
