I solved this problem by using fingerless gloves or mittens. They are available in a fariety of styles. You can find them with finger tips exposed, or with flaps that go over the fingers when you’re wanting them covered. I made mine as mittens so that they are long enough to cover the fingertips, but the end is open just enough that I can slip them pack to expose the fingertips as needed.
