But it would appear this is an issue fairly unique to you or a very small group of people because I have not seen this mentioned on Applevis and neither have I noticed any issues with any of my 2 mail accounts I have set up. I also don't recall seeing messages on this list about it.

Apparently the mail retrieval problem is an actual thing because there are various solutions proposed all around the net so I know I'm not the only one who is having this issue. But shutting down my phone every time (or nearly every time) I want to read my mail is really annoying. There are times when, no matter what I do, my mail simply will not download. I have reported this to Apple and hopefully they can reproduce it and address it in a future update. But it is sufficiently annoying that I wish I had not updated.
