Marty, Sounds like something got turned on, either by you or with an IOS update, in Location services. You can find these settings by going to settings, privacy, Location Services & first make sure that none of the listed apps are always tracking you. If so, just tap on the name of the app to change how you want to be tracked. If none, swipe down to System Services & turn off those items that you don't need/want on.
