Esther, on phones 10 and up, to go to the App Switcher, swipe up from bottom of screen until you hear two pops. You are there then. You slide up with three fingers to close programs. That is it.
In case you weren't sure, to go to Control Center, slide one finger down from the top of the screen to the first pop and to go to Notifications, down from top to the second pop. Once you get used to not having a Home Button and the new way for App Switcher, Control Center, and Notifications, you may like it just fine.
