I'm actually not a member of AppleVis, but I lucked into the answer there while doing a google search. You might recall that I had questions about the various subscriptions to both Weather Gods and The Weather Channel iOS apps. I couldn't find my answer via Google regarding The Weather Channel app so wrote the developer and will post back if I hear anything. But as for Weather Gods and what's grandfathered in and what one has the option to purchase, I'll give the link to the AppleVis thread first, and then I'll quote the appropriate comment from the developer, but note that it is only part of the entire comment as the developer addressed a specific user in part of that same comment, so one may want to follow the link and read the entire thread if interested in the full answer or learning more about just how much it costs to maintain the app:
