Hi Josh, no need to tap, if you touch in that cut-out of your screen protector and you hear any part of the status bar you can do your 3-finger swipe up or down for Control Centre or Notification Centre if that is what you have gotten used to. I personally have gotten used to the single finger swipe, but it's all personal preference.
