They are very inexpensive and will always be available when you say "Alexa" where is if you use Alexa on an iPhone you do still have to first open the Amazon Echo app. You can probably find plenty of 2nd or 3rd generation Echo Dot speaker for $10 or $20, I have a few of them and even the older larger ones which I really have to advertise and get rid of because we have Sonos throughout the house and while you still can't use the Intercom feature via a Sonos speaker, you can do anything else.
