I saw the 15.7 update, but haven't seen 16 yet. I imagine the
servers are probably swamped, so I was going to wait a bit for them
to calm down anyway. Hopefully the update will show up for me in the
next few days.

developer betas. You can skip iOS 15 entirely, and just install iOS 16.

first presented with an iOS 15.7 update which mentioned security fixes.
I didn't even look further because if I had I would have seen that
it then said that also available was iOS 16.
I can't remember if this was already the case with iOS 15 last year
or if this is a new and less forceful approach by Apple to let
people know the new version of iOS is available but to then let
them decide if they want to download and install it. Anyways, I did
the 15.7 update and then when I checked I saw the iOS 16 update
which also downloaded and installed quickly and without fuss.
