Yes, this is quite annoying for sure. I have submitted feedback to YouTube on this problem, and I hope others will do the same. There is supposedly a workaround where, when you open the app for the first time, you turn, voiceover off, and then swipe down with your finger and then re-enable voiceover. This works unreliably for me. Also, it is very difficult to edit comments. My only other suggestion is that you leave feedback to YouTube letting them know that this is a problem for you as a blind person. Good luck.
