The TuneIn "search" field is indeed available via the "Car Mode" button, but I have discovered that it isn't necessary to enter this mode in order to do a search. If you slide your finger slowly down from the "Car Mode" button, you'll encounter a "Search" bar. It doesn't show up when one does a flicking gesture, unfortunately.
