I can still get to the list of events for today. It's right after the list of the days of the month, so you can get to it by just touching the bottom of the screen or jumping to the end of the screen and flicking left. If you tap on one of the days of the month then you'll have the list of events for that day at the bottom.

In my native calendar app I used to be able to read my calendar appointments by simply flicking right and the phone would announce the date, time and title of each appointment.
