In response to the comment earlier that making something open source is not a panacea, I merely want to point out that no one ever said it was a panacea, only that instead of shutting it down and keeping the code to themselves which they would have the right to do; they are making it available to anyone who wants to develop it further, or to simply incorporate into another app. If no one picks it up, o well.
