What are those other methods? I assume you mean Spotify, Deezer or other streaming services and of course if you use any of them, the Music app may indeed be redundant. My wife and I prefer to stick with the Apple ecosystem and I subscribe to the full family subscription (my Mom is also in that group) and for that we all get 2 Tb iCloud Storage, Apple Music, Apple News, Apple Fitness and a bunch more stuff. So in our case the music app is definitely required as you need it to manage your Apple Music whether you download anything to your device or simply stream everything.
