That is interesting because I have been to the Philippines many times ever since I had an iPhone 4S and I have always had local SIM cards from various providers there and I have also been to Germany and the US where I had local SIM cards and I never even once had an issue with any of my various iPhone models not recognizing a SIM. I do usually turn the phone off, insert the new SIM and then turn it on, but that has never failed me.
