You probably canceled the message by using two finger. Swigle motion that is put two fingers on the display and swipe forward and back. This cancels, several actions close the keyboard, working, cancel, sending, or in Safari, it goes back to the previous page. I usually do the rotor actions with fingers from two separate hands, and just move the fingers in opposite directions of each other.
