Hey James,

Check out the “Airplay & Handoff” dialog in Settings/General, if you have the 
same Apple ID for both phones and ensure that “Handoff” is enabled on both 
phones the contacts (and other app data) will be synced such that making 
changes on one phone will register identically on the other iPhone.

NOTE: I have “Handoff” enabled on both my iPhones as well as my Mac mini, 
making edits or additions in Contacts, Notes, e-mail and other apps on any one 
of these devices magically appear on the other 2 iDevices.
