You don't have to use a 3-finger swipe up to close apps in the app switcher. Just do a single finger flick up or down and you hear "Delete", then double tap and the app closes. Once you do this once the selection will stay on delete so if you continue to double tap as other apps are announced you continue to close them. If you get to an app you want to open just swipe up or down with 1 finger again to "Activate" and double tap and you close the item switcher and go into that app.
