I just retired the HP Envy I had for years and replaced it with an HP Laptop. I went with it primarily because I liked the price point, and I was happy with my HP Envy, a lot happier than the Dell's we use at the office. I also go with a 15 inch laptop to get the full sized keyboard, but also use an external keyboard almost exclusively.
Not sure if you're asking about specs or not, but I've got an I5 processor, 8G of RAM, and a 256G SSD. I use it pretty much the same way you do, and I find it performs just fine.
