I double checked my settings under General/Keyboard. I have both autocorrect and predictive text off, but I have Check Spelling on. That way it alerts you to misspelled words and you can use the rotor to find them and manually correct it. For what it is worth, I also turn off smart punctuation. The reason for that is if you are searching for a book title in BARD or Bookshare and it has an apostrophe, and you have smart punctuation on, it shows up as a single right quote, and you likely will not find the title you are searching for.
