There is only place where you can download apps for the iPhone, free or not, they either come from the Apple Store or they don’t come from anywhere. Oh, right, of course unless you jailbreak your iPhone and actually I don’t even know if you can jailbreak iOS 16 let alone iOS 17 any more, haven’t heard anything about this in years, not like it used to be back 10 years ago when many people did it. And then you can of course also wait for another year or two or maybe 3 or whatever until the EU forces Apple to allow people to sideload apps from other sources in addition to the App Store. At least the iPhone 15’s and others going forward now have USB-C so maybe the sideloading will come as well.
