I see that Max's email address is gmail.com. If someone posts to a Google Groups mailing list from a Gmail address then they won't get a copy of their message. It's just the way Google Groups works. This is independent of the mail client being used. I assume it's because Google Groups assumes you know you sent your message, and it's just trying to keep messages out of your inbox.
