I hear you loud and clear. I used to do alot of shooting in an indoor
shooting range and and people that were beginners at reloading would come
into the gun store thinking they knew what they were talking about and would
ask for reloaded ammo, then when they wer handed a box of reloaded ammo they
wanted to argue, then get promptly educated on what they should be asking
for.

Yes, I guess in this case it’s a matter of semantics since when you go to
Settings > Camera you are actually not opening the camera app but the
Settings app.

When you said “I was opening the Camera from the Home Screen icon instead of
opening the Camera app” I was a bit confused and I thought you meant the
camera button on the lock screen and the camera icon on the home screen
which is the same whereas adjusting camera related options in the Settings
app is altogether a different story.

I get this all the time at my retail store, we sell outdoor and hunting
equipment including firearms and ammunition as well as reloading supplies.
We often get people who call and they ask “do you have bullets for a 30 odd
6” or whatever caliber they have. I know that many more people buy factory
loaded ammunition and not reloading components such as powder, bullets,
brass and primers, but usually I then ask if they are looking for ammunition
or bullets and some people get all mad because they think I’m trying to be
smart whereas all I want to do is make sure I give them the correct
information.

Hi Sieghard,

Opening the camera from the home screen does not show the Format button. I
only get this when I open the Camera app in Settings. I used Windows to try
and view the .HEIc picture and didn't even check it with Windows 11. Thank
you for checking it in Windows 11 and verifying that Win11 will open a
picture in .HEIC format, and convert it.
Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Opening the camera from the lock screen or the icon on the home page or from
control centre is all the same.

As far as HEIC formatted images are concerned, they open just fine for me on
my Windows 11 laptop in the Photos app.

It used to be you had to download the HEVC Video Extension from the
Microsoft Store and maybe I have done this and don’t remember or maybe in
Windows 11 Version 23H2 this is already included in the Photos app, but I
did just try this and it worked and then in Photos if you wanted to convert
to JPG, you can either press tab or shift + tab until you get to the “More
app bar Button” and after activateing it select “Save As” or press Control +
S and the Save As dialogue comes up. In the list of formats you can then
select JPG and save your file with whatever name you want.

When I just tried this the picture in HEIC format I sent from my iPhone to
Dropbox was 2093 Kb and the JPG was 2348 Kb, not a huge size difference, but
more than 10% larger.

Hi Rob,

Thank you very much. Damn, I was opening the Camera from the Home Screen
icon instead of opening the Camera app! What a dumb ass! LOL

Thanks again for getting my dumb ass to the right place!

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Go to Settings > Camera > Formats.

Look under the Camera Capture heading.

Double-tap “Most compatible” to change the capture format from High
efficiency to Most compatible.

Subject: Changing Default Photo Format

Hi All,

Running iOS17.3 on an SE2022 iPhone. My wife took a couple of pictures and
sent to them to me to upload, but when I received them they were, .HEIC
format, and I had to download a program to my PC to change the format to,
.JPEG, before they seen on my PC.

So, how do we change the default photo format back to .JPEG? I don't know
when the format switched to this .HEIC format, but I do not like it at all.
I opened the camera and didn't find the old format option. Does anyone know
how we can switch back to the .JPEG format? All help is greatly
appreciated. Thanks much.

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.
