For me, muting VO and unmuting will do the trick I have noticed the volume decrease issue for a few weeks now. It periodically happens when listening to podcasts, YouTube videos, etc. The simplest way I have found to get the volume back up is to pause the audio with a 2-finger double tap, press either volume button once, and restart the audio. HTH, Jeff This decrease and then increase in volume happened to me last night. I was reading a book from NLS on my phone and, at first, I thought the fluctuation in volume might be related to how the book had been recorded, but it continued to happen when I was visiting Facebook and when I was reading e-mail. I rebooted the phone, but it made no difference. Since this morning, however, it hasn't happened any more. A few days ago, we had a power failure. The Iphone was plugged in at the time, charging, and as soon as the power failed, it became almost impossible to use VoiceOver -- speech would stop almost immediately whenever I tried to do anything on the phone. I tried using BlueTooth BEATS earbuds, and that did not help either. Eventually, when I began using my MFI hearing aid (which I hadn't been using when the power went off), VoiceOver would work without stopping. I don't know what caused either of these situations, but, knocking on wood, I'm happy that everything seems to be working right now! I think I saw that someone else was also experiencing this problem. Every now and then the speech suddenly softens and I need to turn up the volume. Then, without any apparent reason, the volume returns and I need to turn it down. It isn’t just Voiceover as I am using Duo Lingo and even the speech on that app softens. Alison Have you tried turning voiceover off and then back on again? You can just tell siri to turn off voiceover then wait a minute or so then tell siri to turn it back on again. Also try turning off the phone and turning it back on again. Navigate to speaking rate and then adjust it that way.
